The Garden City of Bogenhausen-Priel

The Garden City of Bogenhausen-Priel is located between Oberföhringer Straße and Cosimastraße in the beautiful Munich neighborhood of Bogenhausen. Furthermore, it is located on both sides of the following three streets: Effnerstraße, Lohengrinstraße, and Wahnfriedallee.

Construction of the Garden City of Bogenhausen-Priel began in 1934. Mainly single-family homes and semi-detached houses were built. Residents of the neighborhood used to call the Garden City the “Richard Wagner Quarter,” as the development’s streets are strongly reminiscent of Richard Wagner. Examples include Elsastraße, Gralstraße, and Telramundstraße.
Before the Bogenhausen-Priel garden city was built, the land belonged to the family of Josef Grimmeisen. He acquired a brickworks at Oberföhringer Straße 103 in 1879. He was one of Munich’s “Loambarone” (loam barons). However, this brickworks was demolished in 1922 due to the economic crisis.
