The Siemens Estate in Munich-Obersendling

The famous Siemens Estate is located directly on Boschetsrieder Straße in the Munich district of Obersendling. It borders Südpark and is notable for its star-shaped high-rise buildings. Designed in the 1950s by architect Emil Freymuth, who had his office in Cologne, it was the first housing estate in southern Germany to include high-rise buildings. As the name suggests, it was commissioned by the electrical giant Siemens. The entire district is now a protected monument.

As already mentioned, the most striking buildings in the Siemens Estate are the two star-shaped, 17-story high-rise buildings, also known as “Star Houses.” A total of 13 residential buildings with over 500 residential units were built. The buildings range in height; there are even two-story terraced houses in the Siemens Estate.

After the turn of the millennium, a third “Star House” was finally built on Leo-Graetz-Straße. It was designed by the Otto Seidle architectural firm. In 2008, this building received the “Munich Cityscape Preservation Award.”

In the 2000s, the Siemens Estate underwent a major renovation – for energy-saving reasons and for reasons of historic preservation.
