Definition of latch bolt
The latch bolt is the part of the door lock that engages the door when closed and also holds it in the door frame.
On most apartment and house doors, the latch bolt is sawn off at an angle. The reason for this is that using a suitable latch bolt should allow the door to be easily closed without having to operate the door handle.
If the latch bolt malfunctions, a so-called latch break can occur, for example, if the door is slammed shut with force. We will discuss the topic of “latch break” in more detail in another article.
